I know that it is illegal to purchase one made after the National Firearms Act of 1933 but is it legal to own a pre-1933 submachine gun like a Thompson submachine gun? Just curious.

That's a Thompson model 1921 with a 30 round clip. It can be fired either as a semi automatic or full automatic and is renowned for its ability to almost never jam even if submerged in water or if mud gets in the housing. It's also a .45 calbre so it packs a hell of a punch.

In the main, no, but there are exceptions. You can get a collectors license, and I am sure certain security types can get a licence as well."The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

On the upside you can still buy a Berret .50cal sniper rifle.

As far as I know, you need the appropriate license and a weapon that has been previously registered with the government. These are extremely hard to come by and outrageously expensive. But, assuming you can find and afford one, it's perfectly legal so long as you file the appropriate paperwork with the ATF."Beauty is not in the face...Beauty is a light in the heart." - Kahlil Gibran
