I've rebuilt everything and taken 2 new crystal fields. One was somewhat chewed, but still.

Seriously - got any good suggestions for Obama?

I hear that he secretly visits Apolyton!

If he does, he'd echo Boris and Rufus and say if you jinx this for him, he'll go down to where you are, bring Mr. T, fire some Snickers at you, rip off your nuts, and then have Mr. T yell "Get some nuts!" while maniacally laughing.

If...if, if, if, if if...Obama were elected, it would be smart of him to reach across party lines for a major cabinet appointment. It won't be Powell (although there are some people already touting him for Secretary of Education; education has been Powell's cause since resigning in '04). I'd lover for it to be Richard Luger at State, but the better move would probably be to keep Gates on at Defense.

I doubt any Republican Senator would take it as they need all the seats they can hold.

It'll be Gates and it would have been Gates if Hillary was the winner as well. He's an easy choice to keep.

I'm not at all confident it will be Gates, actually. He's far too strong-willed and tough to be an ideal bipartisan cabinet pick. You want someone non-threatening like Cohen or Mineta.

IN has a GOP Guv who isn't likely to lose re-election next week. I can see Lugar in the Cabinet. Probably not State, since way too many Dems want that job (reportedly, Kerry and Richardson are the front-runners). I can see Hagel somewhere in the cabinet, and for that matter, Leach, or Chafee; besides Defense and State, VA and UN Ambassador are reasonable places to put in the right Republican. And yeah, Gates is probably sticking around for at least a lengthy transition period.

OTOH, the benefits of long term incumbancy are pretty nice. Lugar won't be voted out simply because of who he is. A first term R Senator is far more vunerable.

Hagel and Chafee may be decent contenders.

If the Republicans have to worry about seats like that for yet another cycle, they're pretty ****ed as a party...
