No, Chicago's the apex of Midwestern civilization surrounded by the horrors of flyover territory. I've heard some people refer to areas like 'Indiana', 'Iowa', 'Gary', and, worst of all 'Milwaukee', but they're about as real as "Real America".

        I way I see it:

If the RNC/McCain campaign wants to blow $150k of their donor's money dressing up Sarah Palin... have at it, fellas. You're doing a heckuva job!

I'm not saying it was a bad investment. Image counts. Heck, even McCain has a personal makeup artist in his entourage.

But I think Joe Six-Pack might be surprised at the cost. Not exactly the right message to send to him as his 401k tanks.

You're missing the point, rah. Obama isn't spending money like a drunken sailor; he's spending money like he's the richest man in teh world -- which, politically, he is.

The RNC, otoh, isn't that rich, and has (or should have) many higher spending priorities. That 150k is money that's not going to a GOP congressional candidate who's going to lose in a squeaker (and you know there'll be at least one). If I were that cadidate, I'd be pissed.

However, since I'ma dem, i'm merely delighted.

Regarding ads in Chicago, I'm guessing that was a national buy. I'm seeing Obama ads in TX. These ads are intended to help Obama run up the margin, and help downballot candidates since the election has already been won. More ads in swing states are getting to the point of diminishing returns.

I think that he should be sending more of that money to the DSCC, though.

Ads in Chicago bleed into northwest Indiana. That's why he buys ads in DC (for Northern Virginia).

This is a well-understood policy. If you have a lot of money it allows you to get ads to people who your opponent can't (without also paying for large market ads)

Rah is bitter because he's not used to seeing the Repubs out-spent. Trust me, if there was a way for McCain to have a huge cash advantage, Rah would embrace it and crow about it as being brilliant. But since it's Obama, he's "gone back on his promise."

The temptation here would be to list all of McCain's positions from the 2000 campaign and compare them to his stance on those same issues today. But that would be cruel.

Sadly, this year none of the GOP fat cats is stepping up with big off-the-books money like the Swift Boat campaign. At least not yet. And it's getting late.

(FYI, Swift Boat cost = $3MM for ads and PR, all from "private support" and NOT part of Bush campaign or GOP "coordinated expenses" in '04).

                    But I digress.

Did you know that the GOP also dropped several thousand on a vocal coach for Palin and listed it as "Operating Expenditures/Get Out The Vote Consulting"? (Again, with her annoying squeak and tendency to lapse into "nukyuhler" probably a good investment.)

Yep. If they were spending taxpayers money, I'd be ticked. But they're spending their own money. Who am I, who is anyone, to criticize?

Well, if it was taxpayer money, you'd be getting all that back and then some. Imagine how much some people would pay at auction for a suit that Gov. Palin wore? Because that is where the clothing is going (auction and then the money to charity).

Why are we even talking about Palin's $150,000 expenditure? Do you know what the real campaign offense is?

Obama taking a 767 for a trip to see his grandmother. What a wasteful ponce.

                              (a) It is his plane.
                              (b) I'll bet he uses its communications system to keep in touch with his campaign. I'll bet he takes at least some of his staff and advisors with him.
                              (c) there is a marked difference between visiting one's dying grandmother and buying expensive clothing.

Oh, you can't be more wrong, Zkrib. Barack Hussein Osama's Obama's got the terrorist bloodline, remember?

Why else would he want to use a 767? Remember, two--2!!!!--of the planes used on 9/11 were 767s.

And let's not forget that they were Boeings, a Chicago company. And he's got the whole Chicago connection right there.

And he pals around with Ayers, who in 2001 said that he wished he'd bombed more!!!!!!

So not only is there the whole wasteful spending and energy consumption, but just what kind of message is he sending to us? Remember, he doesn't view America like we real Americans do.
