Top Iran officials recommend preemptive strike against Israel
It's certainly strong enough to swat down whatever Iran sends its way. It's also strong enough to engage in limited airstrikes against Iran without losing too many planes. It isn't strong enough to do much else, however. Long-term bombing is out of the question, as it would result in significant degradation of Israeli air power over time (Iranian air defense is good enough to be a bit of a deterrent). Anything else is just fantasy.

No, actually in the 60s and 70s.
We had lots of financial and security cooperation.
We sold them weapons, we trained and built their security forces.
We also had a shared project to channel their oil through a pipe from the red sea (Eilat) to the Mediterranean. This sorta went off in flames when they had a revolution.
Btw, I think we were among the first to realize that it's gonna happen.
Hey, he was quite a good dictator until a certain stage.
He modernized Iran with incredible money poured into infrastructure, military, education. He's the reason Iran is among the most advanced countries in the middle east, scientifically.
Toward the end IIRC he went a bit crazy, and talked about being invincible god.
Also too bad Jimmy Carter pressured him about civil rights and democratization. Apparently this caused him to avoid assassinating shiite revolution leaders while he still could.
Eventually muslim clerics came to power and, as we all know, civil rights and democracy are flourishing again, thanks to Mr. Carter.
Iran has no chance of pulling this off. The fact that Isreali forces are more than capable of defending against whatever aging rust buckets Iran can actually get airborne aside, they have to fly over either Turkey, Iraq (US) or SA to get there, each of which are capable of swating away Iranian air power themselves.
