Given the title, I didn't think this thread was about Celine Dion quitting - but I was sure hoping...

If you look at his answer from the debate, he was very careful not to promise no deficits explicitly.

Even before the election, there were national headlines of "Harper won't rule out a deficit", so I'm wondering if you just didn't read the newspapers or you enjoy character assassination without merit?

You simply cannot truthfully pretend like he's backtracked on a campaign promise here. Minus points to you for sleazy politicking.

Look at his attacks on the other party leaders in the campaign on the issue.

Minus points to you for not paying attention (again).

He said the other parties would run a deficit, which is true given all the spending they would propose.

He said he wouldn't rule out a deficit himself.

There seems to be a hole in your logic the size of Quebec's ego.

You simply cannot say he's backtracking when it was clearly said and reported that he would not rule out a deficit, well before election day.

Did he say he wouldn't rule out taxing income trusts as well?

                  They're different situations completely.

Note that Income Trusts had to be taxed anyway due to every ****ing company looking at switching to them...

                  What is your major malfunction?

It is simply not backtracking to say you will not rule out a deficit, then accept the reality of the chances of having a deficit in the economic slump. There's no lie here, it was clear from the very beginning that it was an option and it was out there and Canadians knew about it.

You are being incredibly disingenuous by categorizing it as a backtrack, and I expect better from you.

I see. Harper's position was that the other party platforms will cause deficits (according to him of course) but the Conservative platform won't....unless it does. Got it now.

And an anglophone Torontonian is expected to replace him. There's an idea.

Strongly disagree. Trudeau destroyed any chance of Liberals getting elected in Alberta, an increasingly large electorate.

He also stoked the separatist fires out West, which only get worse the more people like Dion talk.
