      No one should vote

if they would vote differently than me!

The Electoral College is not elitist. It is simply telecommunications impaired. When every voter has access to a phone, it can be done away with.

          Please define 'person'.

          I'm not joking here.
Here in Belgium a 'person' under 18 is not allowed to vote.
And, if I am not mistaken, a 'person' under 21 cannot be elected.

I have no idea if 'persons' in psychatric asylums are allowed to vote or not.

I have no idea about 'persons' having Down Syndrome.

My grand mother in her last years thought WW2 was still going on and prayed for the prisonners 50 years after the war was over.

So, how is an alzeimer (sp?), 96 yo granny not even remembering the date more a 'person' than a 17 yo teen?

Who decides who's intelligent enough to vote? Me?

No, because then we'd have a socialist republic of the United States.

We all know you'd just vote for closeted secret Muslims anyway.

Person: a human at the age of legal majority or older, who is legally competent to handle his/her own affairs. Currently, that would be everyone 18+ years old and holding their own power of attorney.

                        And, obviously, American citizens only.

I'm sympathetic to OzzyKP's cause, but want to frame this answer in the context of the Stossel meme, which was based on knowledge rather than pure age (although it was clearly aimed at partying youth). Whether the base age should be lower than 18 is another discussion.

If we want to base it on competency and knowledge, you'd be purging a lot of votes from the rolls, of all ages.

You'd kiss the redneck vote goodbye, and some minority votes, too.

But then, who decides who's competent enough to vote?

Democracy is overrated. We should just hang all the currently elected officials, clone a triumvirate of great statesmen of the past (I think Jackson for the crazy rednecks, Wilson for the effete intellectuals, and Washington for the moderates), and move on with our lives.

We have the technology. I think.
