I think it takes more like 4 seconds to fall neglecting air resistance, 5-6 including air resistance, with a top speed around 130ft/sec neglecting air resistance. But that's also off-the-cuff math so probably just as wrong as Lori's.

Bodies fall at 30 feet per second squared, i.e., it falls faster on the 2nd second, faster yet on the third, and so on. Eventually a human body will reach such a speed (fatal velocity) that any impact, even with water, will kill it. Specific water entry methods can mitigate this impact, but for most folks, that kind of thing happening is extremely rare.

A net at the Golden Gate just sends determined jumpers to the Bay Bridge. For a person determined to die, this is not a real long walk. Tell me why we care enough to spend $50 million and then endless maintenance fees. If someone is determined enough to die to walk to a big, somewhat remote (in terms of walking patterns) bridge, do we really believe landing in the net is going to stop the motivation.

Heck, if SF puts in the net, all kinds of folks will want to dive into the net for the thrill.

I did some more math. You were closer. Looks like 3.69 seconds and a final velocity of 119 ft/sec. Again, this all assumes no air resistance and that I remember anything from my high school science classes.

This seems so offensive, even for YOU Lancer.

I can believe you would say something this serious, a person jumping to end their life, and joke that it was over taxes or even innocent women as the cause.

This is a new low, even for you.

I am stunned and feel sorrow not only for the victims but also for you, to think suicide is funny, shame on you lancer, fer shame, fer shame, fer shame

During the building of the Bridge there were safety nets installed to reduce work fatalities.
