Yes. Even an integrationist power like Germany is less eager now. In the Eurogroup summit scheduled to start off in a few hours, little ambition is shown towards a concerted effort in reducing the problems. A supranational European watchdog as proposed by some integrationist member states such as Belgium will not be discussed. Neither will there be a debate around an emergency fund, a widely acclaimed suggestion.

I am biased because I'm pro-integration, but this crisis and the way it is handled by the EU and its national governments further support my disposition tbh.

The trade deficit with the EU fell by 38.5%. That's got a lot to do with it.

Looks like US exporters are screwed now.

The dollar and oil are (somewhat) negatively correlated. When oil goes up the dollar falls. When oil falls the dollar rises.

There's a deeper structural reason that capital sees the US itself as a safe haven. Of all major countries, the US is most committed to unrestricted capitalism. Other countries, particularly, the European ones are more likely to enact policies that are not capital friendly or enact policies that are more unfriendly than the US.

This movement can be seen as capital retreating to its inner fortress because it feels the possibility of a mortal threat. If it had gone to Europe, it would have impoverished the US and defanged its greatest defender, probably wounding itself in the process. possibly fatally.

So the US may be perceived as a necessary last haven for capital, whether or not its particular assets make financial sense or not. And frankly, the US makes no financial sense at all when you look at the balance sheet and the sheer financial insanity it has caused.

That assumes that capital is acting altruistically coordinated. The individual investors are neither altruistic or coordinated.

Supply and demand. Yes, they could buy CAD, but most of the fleers are Americans, and ... we don't like your weird funny money.

The programming portmanteau for "not equal to."
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

!= and /= and =/= and ≠ all mean "do not equal"

Handwritten, it would just be a slash through an equals sign, but we don't have fun math symbols like that on the keyboard, you have to use html code to render it
