    How does one pronounce the name Niegowić? (The town where John Paul II was a priest when he was young.)

    Where's Heresson when you need him?
    "The world is too small in Vorarlberg". Austrian ex-vice-chancellor Hubert Gorbach in a letter to Alistar [sic] Darling, looking for a job...
    "Let me break this down for you, fresh from algebra II. A 95% chance to win 5 times means a (95*5) chance to win = 475% chance to win." Wiglaf, Court jester or hayseed, you judge.

            It's hard to explain. It's not quite nye, it's ń as in nuńo in spanish, e like in Espańa in spanish,
            go like in Gorbaczew,
            w = v, like in Vanessa
            and ic' like in Karadzić I think.
            it's not quite like ich / itch, but I do not have any doubt You will be able to pronounce it.
            Call me and I will pronounce it for You :P

                  "POH-lish."

                  Or if you mean the stuff you use to shine furniture, it's "PAH-lish."

                  Happy to help.

                      Actually, pronouncing foreign words correctly is the province of uppity learning-mongers who are secret Muslims and have ties to America-hating socialist terrorists.

                      If you really wanted to blend in with Joe Sixpack, you'd pronounce "Niegowić" as "N***a-Witch".

                        It used to be pronounced as l in Allah in nominativus (that is actually the only place in arabic where this sound officially exists).
                        People in eastern edges of Poland and poles from Belarus etc still pronounce it this way.

                        Today, it is pronounced as english w, like in walrus, or work.

                          Should we look down on those Poles from Belarus as rubes and what not?
