  • If the economy get's much worse what will the candidates do?

That would be an excellent question to ask the candidates, don't you think?

I think Obama would increase the amount of spending for the things he's already proposed.

    1) Infrastructure
    2) Healthcare
    3) Science
    4) Green energy
    5) Manufacturing

I don't know how he would specifically do more in those areas though.

I don't know what to think about what McCain would do. He could go with his economists and do virtually nothing or he might turn liberal.

They can't do anything because (a) they have no more idea than the general public what to do about it, and (b) the body politic is largely predicated on the idea that the current failing model is the only alternative.

You have to laugh really. The Emperor has no clothes.

This does not deserve it's own thread with so many threads on the economy.

I am not threadjacking, so much as threadadding.

        I need to say this.

Hi America. I am speaking to that percentage of you who voted for Bush in the 2000 election. This is also addressed, to the Stupid Voters(TM, http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008/...e-stupid-vote/ )

Oh remember old stupid Al Gore, so boring, a ***** who would not keep us safe? His hair was bad and he was boring! HAR HAR HAR! Wasn’t he boring and his hair sucked? Oh, and he wanted that stupid lock box idea to save social security, what a stupid name, HAR HAR HAR! His hair sucks and he is boring, who cares that pays attention to detail and wanted new financial regulations. His hair sucked, he was boring, lock box, HAR HAR HAR!

Well, Stupid America, do you think Al Gore would have let the economy get into this mess? Stupid America, you are shallow stupid bastards and I am willing to blame you almost as much as corrupt politicians and the media. Every fool who did not vote for Gore because of some superficial reason has a stake in our current collapse.

So in closing, Stupid America, you suck. It is a shame so many people are being foreclosed on and it is also a shame that the bailout bill does not include a provision to let bankruptcy judges renegotiate the principal on mortgages so people can actually pay them off. My one solace is that fools like you who took out $200,000 mortgages with a $28,000 a year job working in the service industry, may soon be in the street. The proverb that you should give money to every beggar who asks for it has always appealed to me, however if I can clearly identify one of you on a street corner, I am not giving you my spare change, instead I am going to donate it to an abortion clinic.

Feel free to accuse me of having lost my mind, I’m sure it will be said soon. When I woke up this morning and learned of the collapse of foreign markets, I briefly thought about Al Gore and the insanity of the 2000 election. I wondered if this mess would have happened under a Gore administration. The stupid superficial crap from that election... ugh!

Is this a serious question? Of course he would have.

I know what they could do. They could sing along with the rest of us. Altogether now:

Ten stock brokers, crying way up high
There were ten stock brokers crying way up high
And if one stock broker should accidentally "fly"
There'll be nine stock brokers crying way up high

            Nine stock brokers...

Hey, I don't start very many threads, and this doesn't go in any "How to profit off of everyone elses misery" thread.

This is a very important question.

Sorry, I’ll also answer the OP. I really do not think even the candidates can predict where they will spend and cut. So much can change in the economy between now and the first day they take office.

We would not have been in Iraq and wasted all that money or have had these massive tax cuts.

Nor was there any certaintly that the value of the American dollar would gradually take a nosedive over the last 3 years.

The current collapse happened as a result of changes in regulation under the Bush administration, I don't think Gore would have let that happened and even if he did, our economy would be so much stronger that this would have been a much softer blow.

I came to this realization this morning when I woke up. I wonder how Gore can manage to not eat a gun every morning when he reads the latest awful news.

                  Which changes exactly?

Completely irrelevant to the current crisis, and thus this thread.

Nor was there any certaintly that the value of the American dollar would gradually take a nosedive over the last 3 years.
The value of the dollar being a minor contributor to the current crisis, also irrelevant. But even if it was, as you said we don't know so it is irrelevant regardless.

The current collapse happened as a result of changes in regulation under the Bush administration, I don't think Gore would have let that happened and even if he did, our economy would be so much stronger that this would have been a much softer blow.
What changes? This is the third thread I have asked this question of you and it will probably be the third thread you fail to provide thes mythical changes.

Assuming you do though, please provide the link to the Bush Administration as well.

I came to this realization this morning when I woke up. I wonder how Gore can manage to not eat a gun every morning when he reads the latest awful news.
I am still waiting for you to give one reason why Gore would have averted this situation.

Clearly he would have repudiated 12 years of Bush/Clinton, thus leading to us not having 20 years of Bush/Clinton/Bush.

I read that Clinton signed something in 1999 that changed the laws that were put in place because of the great depression.

"This legislation is truly historic and it indicates what can happen when Republicans and Democrats work together in a spirit of genuine cooperation," Clinton said at a White House signing ceremony.
