So what's the deal with Biden?

I just watched the VP debate. I think he did pretty good. It's obvious he can talk and that he has experience. But I've heard he blurts out things and hurts his own image badly.

What kind of things has he blurted in the past?

Also, why can't Republicans say the word "nuclear"? It isn't that difficult.
