  • This is what Bill Moyer was talking about last Friday on his show. Some call it financialization of the economy. You can see the growth of the futures market with this table. More and more of that growth is derivatives based on future expectations of things like housing prices.

    • Some interesting stuff on the CRA from Ezra Klein:
Why would anyone listen to Ezra Klein on the financial crisis? He's 24 years old, has no experience in the financial world, has no higher degree in economics and his main area of expertise is in education policy. Is this really who you get your analysis from?

Moving to Iowa where housing is cheap makes more sense than some of the ways I've seen people here use to buy homes: 3 couples going intogether to buy a 3-bedroom home; buying homes using loans that have adjustable-rate, interest-only loans, NINJA loans & just plain lying on the loan application.

As opposed to you, who's reading obviously idiotically partisan op eds that can't withstand the slightest scrutiny? You still haven't responded to my post regarding GSE regulation.

He's a pretty astute journalist who's reporting some basic facts. Do you contest them? If not, what's your point?

          • Chuck Calomiris is quite respected in economic circles. You would know this if you were an informed consumer of information, but you're obviously not since you think Ezra Klein has something of worth to contribute on this subject.

            • I see, so you have no point. And you're not going to respond to me regarding GSE regulation. Kay.

              • Put another way...

My source for analysis on the financial crisis? The Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions at Columbia University's Graduate School of Business.

Ramo's source? Some 24-year old left-wing blogger who writes about education.

Yet I'm the one who's "idiotically partisan."

Put another way, the only kinds of arguments that you're willing to use to defend your hackery are ad hominens.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

You deserve mockery based on your performance in this thread. You have nothing of interest to offer on the subject. You're just a conduit for tedious spin from unqualified sources.

                          • Yet you're not contesting the basic facts reported by my "unqualified source," while you still haven't bothered to defend the hackery about GSE reform contained in your "qualified sources."

                            Talk about deserving mockery.

I have to add that it's pretty awesome you're relying on someone from a business school as your basis for argument from authority. Couldn't even find a real economist?

Hardly. Canada is a great country, much saner than the United States. They even elect leaders who are qualified for the job, unlike Obama and Palin.

                                Define "elect."
