  • A personal question on the financial crisis

One of the people I know was telling me today that she had been placed, through the college's placements office, in Morgan Stanley. She is supposed to start working after getting her degree, which she will in 2009.

A simple question: how will this affect her? Will it affect her at all? If MS goes down, what then? If it's merged with some other company, what then? In general, what are the possible things that could happen?

    Possible things:
    1. She gets a job at MS and works for them or the company who buys them.
    2. MS folds, sorry, out of luck.
    3. She loses her job as a result of MS's reorganization and/or the company that buys them's reorganization.

When you say 'placed', do you mean 'has a contract', or just 'was hired/told there would be a job for her'? The former makes her more likely to keep her job I'd think (or get a contract-termination bonus)... the latter, I'd guess it's pretty unlikely to have a job if MS is bought out. That said, there's no guarantee any given thing could happen, so ... keep hope up, while looking for another job?

I'd guess the placement office could help, both with the 'what happens', and the 'another job'...

      Didn't Morgan Stanley post a greater-than-expected profit?

If MS merges with another company she probably shouldn't expect to get a job there.

This wouldn't have happened if Bill Gates were still the boss of MS
