"Stumble on a crucial piece of evidence"?

Tape recordings of phone calls don't happen accidentally, and they don't randomly fall into the hands of broadcasters. It's pretty clear that this plot was uncovered through government counterespionage efforts -- which was virtually admitted with the Chavez quote about having "infiltrated the most radical and fascist movements."

Nothing wrong with that. Good on Chavez for protecting himself. But the facade of "talk show uncovers coup attempt" is pretty transparent.

They obviously didn't watch Chavez's highlights reel from 1992...

Socialist ****ers. Chavez deserves a coup, even if we didn't prepare one.

The elite in Venezuela are succubus queens, but Chavez needs to be put down, ASAP.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Chavez is no saint. He's got a couple of failed coups to his name, as Timex alludes to.

Several other plots have been uncovered. In the one that overthrew Venezuelan democracy for a weekend, Chavez basically let most of the plotters that were caught go. The others escaped. Not really a good idea.

Only one, and it was against a government that killed 3,000 of its own people for demonstrating against it. That government should have been overthrown.
