  • Offshore drilling should be tied to a mandatory min gas mileage.

I'm for offshore drilling but only if its tied to a minimum gas mileage for cars, say 50 mpg. When all new cars get 50 mpg the oil cos can drill offshore.

    Good idea?

The Democrats don't really have any wiggle room on the issue.

Good idea. (well, maybe 35mpg would be a more realistic goal... are there even any American cars that get 50mpg?) That disqualifies it from happening though.

Offshore drilling would have no effect on gas prices for over 20 years, and even then it will be a relatively insignificant one.

Th elong term solution is for the U.S. to drop incendiaries all over China and India to massively reduce their populations (and any other country that has too much growth and prosperity). Then we can keep all the oil and the price will go down. Food prices also!

                  Drill here. Drill now.

There has never been a major oil spill from an offshore platform. It is ridiculous to send our wealth to a foriegn country for a resource we have here.

While we are drilling, I am all for researching alternative fuels and conservation methods.

I'd shut down cross country trucking and use trains only. Regional trucking for depots would be ok. Regarding the military I'd add alot of high tech video training and cut a little of the in the field training.

The $4.00 a gal gas cut usage quite a bit. I'd couple usage cuts through regulation of mileage and electric cars for local use.

I'd also make car ownership a right for all workers, paid for through taxes. That would bring the jobs home.

I'd hold at 50. The Prius does better than that now. Phased in over time, 35, 40, 45, 50... Maybe 10 years.

They would have time. I'd want them to show that they can use what we burn now alot more wisely first.

I'd also cap max imports, reducing every year.
