  • Army soldier wearing combat boots at DNC?

I may be wrong but Army Regulation 670-1 is pretty clear on this:

The wear of a combination of civilian and military clothing is prohibited, unless prescribed in this regulation or
other authorization documents approved by HQDA.
    j. Wearing Army uniforms is prohibited in the following situations:
    (1) In connection with the furtherance of any political or commercial interests, or when engaged in off-duty civilian
    employment.
    (2) When participating in public speeches, interviews, picket lines, marches, rallies, or public demonstrations, except
    as authorized by competent authority.
Am I missing something or should that soldier/delegate not have been wearing (and advertising the fact that he was wearing) combat boots at the DNC convention?

Maybe they weren't regulation combat boots?

Concern trolls and (when the individual wearing the clothing in question is a Democrat/liberal, extolling virtues or opinions different from) Republicans. Remember the first rule of ethics and the law: IOKIYAR.

I couldn't even stop at a store off base in fatigues, including boots.

I'm shipping out to Officer Candidate School for the Marine Corps next month so I've read up on the uniform regulations. MCO P1020 has restrictions on the wear of uniforms (though not as explicitly against wearing uniforms at political events as Army Reg. 670-1) so I suspected the Army would too.

Really? I see military personnel in fatigues at wal-mart and such quite often. Maybe they aren't "official" fatigues? Or was your base/CO just more strict than others?

                      I am impressed.

Drill Sargeant: Why aren't you ALL up here?
Candidate: Because the candidates are stupid, Sargeant."

                        Seedle:

As far as I understand (this is coming from Marines so it may be biased), a few years ago, the Army relaxed its restrictions on wearing military uniforms for day-to-day activities like going to the store. This was in order for average civilian Americans to fully realize that we were in a war. The Marine Corps did the opposite to the point of ridiculousness (such as Marines changing to civilian clothes in the car to do errands en route to their base). I have seen uniformed Marines in public though so this might have changed.

I just got officially selected yesterday. I was a little worried about getting selected because I barely managed the minimum pft score (225) but I made it. Now, I have about a month to get my pull-ups up to 20.

But OCS should be fun. Horrible, hungry, and exhausted fun

And practice your push ups. You'll be doing lots and lots of push ups....right after you hear, "Goddamn, Candidate!"

Am I right if I assume that the US army isn't a bunch of wussies, but actually a bunch of pushies ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
