There's John Connor hacking an ATM, and later a security keypad, in Terminator 2.

That isn't actually true - they had access to both an alien ship and it's computer, but doing it in that short time may be a bit ptimistic.

Nah, what I find much more entertaining is when they pop off the lid of some entrance device and start firing off random numbers and gettingthrough in a few secs - hell, even my companys low security devices beeps at me if I hit the buttons too fast. Well, maybe (typically) US high security facilities has lousy security designers
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Just watched "The Core" after reading on Intuitor that it was comically stupid. Hoo boy, was it ever! Ludicrous premise, ludicrous acting, ludicrous special effects. The whole package.

But it did also include a "hacker genius kid" from Carnegie Mellon, presumptively modeled after Kuci, who uses a chewing gum wrapper to make a cell phone get free long distance. I kid you not.

Actually, no, it's possible that the kid was supposed to be just fiddling with the wrapper. I was laughing pretty hard the whole time, so in retrospect I can't be sure what I saw. Gotta be fair.

From what I recall (which was years ago), The Core actually utilized a well-known phreaking technique that used to work for that.

Used to. The current systems are not vulnerable to that problem.

That is the meaning of the phrase "used to", yes. But it's not as absurd as Elok thinks.

What, so I made fun of the one part of the movie that might possibly have sort of worked? Story of my life.

                        It is pretty amusing.

Well, they did also have people tunneling into the Earth's core and not imploding, but that's not hacking-related. I wanted to mock the film but had to stay germane, cut me some slack. The only other stuff I can think of is that hacker-boy had some seriously lame-ass custom graphics on his laptop, and mixed up "its" and "it's."

                          Bah.

I agree Core is a really strong contender for most ridiculous movie premise EVER. Though I didn't get to see the one they made about re-starting the Sun with a nuke which was an obvious attempt to one up the Core. Did anyone who saw both care to give an opinion?

Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Does anyone who saw both dare to admit it?
