I need YOUR help

Hey guys!!!

Basically i'm working on my uni dissertation and i've chosen to investigate online gaming communities. I'm specifically investigating community users' motivations in three areas:

1) Why do you sign up to an online community?
2) What aspects of the online community do you like?
3) What do you do on the online community and why do you do those things?
4) Have you ever created game-related content and if so why do you do it?
5) Would you share game-related content that you've created yourself with the game manufacturer and if so why.


If you help me with the above questions i would really appreciate it. And it really shouldn't take much of your time.

I am willing to share my results with any of you that participate and with the moderators of this site. Also I am open to where we have a chat about the questions I mentioned (either on this forum, msn, skype, video-conferencing etc..).

And yes i'm a Civ player myself. I've played both the first version and currently i have CivIV.

To the moderators: if you give me the permission I will specify what kind of gaming community i've done my research on (i.e. Civilization) in my actual dissertation -that way you can get some free exposure in the academic community

Is your sampling simply random people on the internet? Why did you choose Apolyton, because you also play Civ? At least give us your abstract, and perhaps we will then request a picture of your breasts, or bottom, and after that you will get your data.

I don't want to have my post deleted for commercial advertising by posting the name of my university (i'm not sure how it works here). If the mod's don't object i'll gladly post it, or if you are really interested to know please PM me and I will gladly provide that information for you.

This research will be done for my MA dissertation.

I think the questions i've listed address the basics of my research. Byt you are right that I need to be more specific.

I am trying to find out what motivations people have to sign up and participate in an online gaming community by giving ideas for better products or themselves creating in this case add-ons to the existing product (i.e. creating new scenarios, maps, graphics, artwork, modding). The bigger picture i'm looking at is communities as sources of knowledge which companies can use to create products that are more in line with consumer wants and needs (i.e. more personalized products). Lastly there are two groups of people i'm looking to interview: a) people who participate in discussions and exchange ideas and b) people who create their own add-ons to the game and share these with the community.

I would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts with me.
