    The Kills - Good Ones

The Kills - Last Day of Magic

    Carla Bruni - Quelqu'un ma'a dit
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I couldn't find a Youtube clip of Missisippi John Hurt's Stack 'O Lee Blues, which is pretty awesome.

Here's another master of the country blues: Skip James - "I'm So Glad"

      And for something different

      Brian Eno - Always Returning

Damn, Agathon. I don't think I ever knew you appreciated the Blues. Cool deal.

Brian Eno. That's a very less-travelled path. Again, very cool.

It would be nice if some of the people in these videos could actually play their instruments properly. Too much modern pop music is played by incompetents.

If you want to see people who can really play, check out the Emmanuel Brothers. I saw them play in Sydney about 20 years ago. A mate of my dad's saw them in a Toowoomba pub back in the 80s and used to send tapes.

                    Rolling Stones – No Expectations

I've always liked the slide playing on here. It was one of the last things that Brian Jones did with the Stones, and demonstrates his feel for the idiom (apparently he was a musical genius).

Of all people, Dolly Parton does to Collective Soul's "Shine" what Johnny Cash did to NIN's "Hurt"... only better.

I'd forgotten about that one. iTunes is now a dollar richer because of you.

This is really naff, but it is the number one sing along song if you go to a party full of Maoris. Every single person in New Zealand knows this song.

To make up for that, the best cut from The Jam

I've got about a dozen Blues Masters CD's. One is slide guitsr. One is harmonica. Texas Blues. Rebirth of the Blues. Pst War Blues. Like that. Have an old Blind Lemon Jefferson.
