Can anyone really honestly say that it matters if Veco bought a few votes? Corruption is inherent to every political system, may the best capitalist win. If you think every other senator isn't being sucked off by every corporation every day in one gigantic nerd gangbang then you haven't opened a civics textbook lately..

Maybe we should indict them all on corruption charges and try with a fresh batch.

"There's no good that will come of this," said Jim Whitaker, a Republican who left the state legislature to combat the corrupt oil services company whose taint threatens to bring down Stevens.
Color me surprised that another Republican from Alaska facing corruption charges doesn't like the idea of indicting corrupt politicians.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Wow, I missed the "series of tubes" thing entirely. After catching on to it today and reading this beauty on Wikipedia:
"Ten movies streaming across that, that Internet, and what happens to your own personal Internet? I just the other day got... an Internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, I got it yesterday [Tuesday]. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially.
[...] They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material."
Well, after that beautiful speech, I say we need to preserve Ted Stevens as a national treasure. Not that he should keep his Senate job--not with the power to cast votes, anyway. Perhaps he could remain a sort of honorary schlep who delivers inspiring speeches but doesn't do anything?

He just requested a trial a month and a half before the election (which, I'm sure, will exonerate him).
That ought to make for decent tv.
The Republicans are so ****ed.
Five Senate seats are already in the bag."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

Alas, my computer lacks sound and our connection still isn't much better than dial-up. I'll add that to my big wish list.

Our other congress person is republican Lisa Murkowski... appointed via loophole by her father, governor Murkowski. When she finally came up for an actual election 2 years later, she still beat the democratic candidate by a large margin.

Oerdin, did you read that article Asher posted? Ted Stevens is responsible for like a fifth of the Alaskan economy from all the unwarranted cash he brings home to the ice-ball. From their perspective, taking a massive home improvement, etc. is insignificant compared to his bringing home the bacon. I bet whoever replaces Stevens as the GOP candidate runs on an "I will abuse the hell out of my office for you" platform.
