Nekkid, and able to change size and shape at will.

Excellent book, highly recommended. I'm curious to see how well it translates to a movie, though...and if the studio has the balls to keep it intact.

That should make him quite a hit with the ladies.

I looked this up on Wikipedia once, and IIRC the naked blue guy does not care for ladies all that much since he became naked, blue and omnipotent. Or for the human race for that matter. He sees our problems as beneath him now. So Wikipedia said, and that's why I decided I didn't care to get the comic. If the Wiki entry was wrong and the comics aren't about some naked guy floating through space while soliloquizing about the insignificance of humanity, please tell me.

Wiki is right, your interpretation of wiki is wrong.

Blue guy cares for ladies... sort of. He kind of hovers between humanity and not. And your interpretation is definitely wrong.

Watchmen is about the costumed* vigilante Rorschach trying to solve the murder of the Comedian, a former associate in the Crimebusters, and the interactions between the remaining members, the rest who have retired from crimefighting.

There's a lot more to it than that. The more text-based interludes provide background to the world. There's even a graphic novel within the graphic novel.

*If you call a Rorschach-blot mask (often changing, which is a detail I like), trenchcoat, hat and gloves a costume. Others had more "typical" hero costumes - bodysuits, masks, some capes.

--" Then I switched to the James Bond novels. Watchmen came out, what, like 20 years after that."

Watchmen was late 80s. The Bond novels started in the early fifties according to Wikipedia, so a bit more ^_^ You should definitely give it a try.

--"Excellent book, highly recommended. I'm curious to see how well it translates to a movie, though...and if the studio has the balls to keep it intact."

More intact than it could have been. Script before the one they're actually using had modified it to be an anti-terrorism story *sigh*. Still, there's a lot in there to cram in to a 2 or 2-1/2 hour movie. Don't have very high expectations for the movie, but it could be decent.

Still wish they had been able to get the funding to let Gilliam make a mini-series out of it. That would have been great.

--"Wraith came back! Well, for one post."

I come back from time to time, although I usually only post in the anime threads.

You've been told already, but I'll say it again. That's a somewhat odd interpretation of the Wiki entry in the first place, and isn't correct. There isn't really a single main character, and Dr. Manhattan, while important to the plot, isn't the focus of it. Rorschach. Nite Owl and Silk Spectre are the main POV characters. The story's more about Rorschach investigating the death of one of the early heroes, which leads to some unexpected places.

Eh, I read the Wiki entry over a year ago and, looking back, it seems I misremembered a few things. Funny, I have this memory of a comic-book page with the naked blue guy soaring through space talking to himself and everything. I guess it's just the power of false memory. Or something.
