  • The USA: Moral of the story - don't piss off the Welsh!

Replying to a post on another thread got me thinking...

Did the United States come about as a proxy struggle between the Welsh and the English...?

Just think for a minute about these facts...

Samuel Adams AKA the "Patriarch of Liberty" and "Father of the American Revolution", basically instigated the protests against the Stamp Act, and was behind the Boston Tea Party.

The American Constitution is based on the philosophies of Richard Price.

Five of the first six Presidents of the USA (and the only Confederate President) were Welshmen...

    John Adams
    Thomas Jefferson
    James Madison
    James Monroe
    John Quincy Adams

Not to mention the All Welsh Civil War between Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis...

So, as far as I can tell, if we couldn't regain independence in England's own backyard - why not do it overseas in her colonies...?

What I want to know is where it all went wrong after such a great start...?

Oh BTW, America is very likely named after a Welshman - or should that be 'ap Meuriga'...?
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

It's named after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian.

        Really?

Well if it was named after him, then why isn't the US called Vespuccia, or my personal favourite, Vespucciland (just down the road from Disneyland...)...?

Places are generally named after a person's surname, not his/her forename, unless they are royals or saints.

Otherwise your capital would be George, D.C. (District of Christopher)...*s*******

I think you may have been suckered in by some dodgy propaganda...

**** the Welsh. The only reason Walses exists is to make all others look good by comparison. Ethiopia, take a bow.

Everything my old friend MOBI says is true. America is the greatest thing to ever happen to Wales because it gave the Welsh something to look forward to after leaving their nasty little bog of a principality. After it became clear to the slate quarriers that there was a better land far to the west, they did the reasonable thing and got the hell out of Wales.

Yet more evidence that America is the best thing to ever happen to the world.
              John Brown did nothing wrong.

                Actually, they were all Americans.

It's pretty sad when Tom Jones is their greatest contribution to the civilized world.

He was a cartographer. Supposedly after making maps of the new world he wrote "America" or something close to that on the big empty spots.

So basically the cream of Wales left while the leftover crap stayed behind?

Just like about half of the signatories of the declaration of independence were also Welsh...

Yeah, if you read Mike's link, he was given a map produced by Cabot who had named it after his sponsor - a Welshman!
