  • the Trivia thread.

I'm bored so let's play a game. I'll ask a trivia question and who ever answers it correctly gets to ask the next question.

First question: Name the only species of monkey native to Europe and where it is found.

Oerdin seems to be so bored that he has fallen asleep - please ask next Q.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Bronze is in every way better than iron for making weapons. Why did Iron Age cultures defeat Bronze Age cultures, then?

I'd say it isn't better in every way. Iron is way stronger so if you're sword fighting with someone and he breaks your sword in two I'd say he has a distinct advantage.

If you put it that way, then it would be because it was becoming increasing difficult to find enough copper and tin to create bronze weapon. That still doesn't stop the fact that Iron is better than bronze for making weapons.

The stronger part isn't just good for weapons. Let's assume you are making a plow share and the bronze one has to be sharpened every time you use it while the iron one can go several uses between sharpenings. Which one do you choose? Remember you have to do everything by hand. What about making tools like a hammer or an axe or nails or a shovel or a pick axe or a chisel? Iron armor will stop a lot of arrows which would go right through bronze armor while an iron bound wheel will last a lot longer then a bronze bound wheel. Iron's extra strength comes in handy in a lot of places.

I think the correct answer is that the posnidacknitrons would otherwise have gone mad, killing us all.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier
