  • Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride

    It's an antihistamine.

I never really looked into them but every other antihistamine I've ever taken makes me wide awake and feel like ****. So why do they sell this one as a sleep aid?

Will it really make me ?

Yep... it will knock you out cold. Very different from pseudoephedrine or other drugs used for a similar purpose.

(well, effects vary by person, weight, metabolism, etc., but generally it does knock people out.)

Hmm, I don't intend to take pseudophedrine ever again...

Does this have similar effects on blood pressure?

Some people are knocked out by DP, but for the majority, DP only induces drowsiness. Thats why it's sold as a sleep-aid, and not as a "sleeping pill" (such as Lunesta for example). DP is not effective for my insomnia since it may help me fall asleep, but doesnt help me stay asleep.

50 mg of DP (a.k.a. Benedryl) usually does the trick for me.

            It did nothing to me.

Is there anything better that you guys can suggest?

That would be Nyquil (Alcohol + DPHCl).

PsE increases your heart rate, not sure what effect it has on blood pressure. I don't think DP would affect blood pressure directly, but I'm not a doctor

It's my understanding that that is an excellent way to commit suicide. I'm not ready for that quite yet.

That's why Nyquil is relatively good (except for the fact that it's like six medicines in one)... it is a carefully metered amount of alcohol with pills

Go doctor shopping until you get a benzo prescription. I recommend temazepam (Restoril is the non-generic name I think) or Ativan.
