    WTF?

    For the past 24 years I have been working on Theoretical values with water as 8.33 # per gallons/62.4 pounds pcf (7.49 gallons per cft) in designing mixes.

    Now I see it is 8.34

    Man, all these years, my equations have been way off

    • 1) Water absorbs in part of the spectrum that CO2 doesn;t hence the greater the water vapour content in the air the greater the amount of energy kept in the planets' atmosphere. So water production does contribute to global warming, but the extent to which it contributes is a different matter

      2) Please for the love of god talk about masses produced from a set amount of reactant under set conditions. Otherwise Some half crazed Chemist is going to come looking for you with a set of thumbscrews and a buzzsaw for making his life hell.
      You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

        Water doesnt effect atmospheric temp he says. Heh.

        Spend 1 night in the amazon, then 1 night in the sahara. You'll see what water does for the temp.

          • Given that 75% of the population lives in urban areas, that is easily met. What is lacking is access to decent public transportation, and the fault of that is conservatism, for a variety of reasons.
            Because we all know conservatives run most big cities.

            a) My driving increases congestion for other drivers;
            And my driving builds roads

            b) I might crash into other cars or pedestrians;
            Which is why I buy insurance and drive speeds allowed by road conditions

            c) My driving contributes to global warming.

              90 degrees in high humidity is the same temperature as 90 degress in low humidity. It feels hotter to us because the water vapor allows more efficient transfer of heat.

                He's talking about retention of heat in the atmosphere. In deserts it generally gets rather cold at night, even when it's hot during the day.

                  We will always be dependant on oil. Plastics are too good a product to live without. Could you imagine a wooden computer? So we need to keep getting it. If by chance, it ever started to go away and stop beeing there, then we learn to make it.

                  Better living through chemistry.
                  Are evil environmentalists preventing drilling in the Dakotas? Or is it that the price of oil isn't yet high enough to justify the expense of extracting that oil?

                  We'll drill. We will probably eventually drill in all those spots. As you point out, oil is used for products, not just energy. However, none of that means that it's a bad idea to invest in alternatives.

                          • I was at a Phillies game a few weeks ago where one of the beers was in a plastic cup made from corn. We all thought it kinda interesting.

                            EDIT actually I thought it was more interesting than the game but I'm not a Phillies or baseball fan.
