  • I Want To Know About Indians.

I've looked around Libraries and online for books about India because I don't know a whole lot about the history. I was watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom the other day with the kids and I realized I don't know as much as I should about India. Is it worth pursuing? And if it is, are there any enlightening books that I may have missed about them.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Nope. They're not terribly interesting people. Find a different subject.

I was thinking the same thing, just the other day.

As a schoolkid, I was taught that one of the four places where civilization began was on the Indus. Then Alexander invaded. After several more centuries, the colonialist came, and battled. There were a few native revolts. The Japanese tried to invade. Then there was Gandhi and the modern era.

I didn't even hear of Timur the Lame until college.

My education about this critical area is shameful.

Well, regardless of all the bad press, wikipedia is a pretty good place to start.

They don't speak English real good, their houses smell like chutney, they're lousy tippers and they couldn't throw a decent breaking ball to save their lives.

You are missing the more important part. Temple of Doom exposes how little people know about Americans. Many people think Shortround is wearing a Yankee's cap.

Indians live in teepees, eat maize (what the white man calls "corn"), drink fire-water (what the white man calls "whiskey"), and run casinos that attract fat, middle aged tourists wearing polo shirts.
