Basically, this American business leader became frightened by the accomplishments of the civil rights movement, the broadening of the welfare system, and what he believed was the threat of rise of socialism in United States.

In this manifesto from 1971, he articulated a strategy for American business leaders with which to fight back the accomplishments of the civil rights movement and its effects on American society, believing that some of the consequences of civil rights movement was a threat to capitalism and the free market. More far-left opponents would claim that Lewis sought to strengthen the free market at the expense of democracy.

In this manifesto, Lewis wrote out ways that American business leaders could take up an aggressive counterreaction to the civil rights movement and the development of the welfare system.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned
