  • A dream of humanity's destruction

This morning I woke up remembering a very vivid dream, probably actually several of them, I for some reason felt compelled to write them down.

I was in my families old apartment, what I was doing there I can’t say I remember. My sister was sick and the disease was very odd indeed, it seemed to be turning humans into a sort of grey goo (they only turned into the stuff once they died, before they looked progressively more sick, unhealthy, and began acting unstably, their sweat was also weird) , now only humans where affected as evidence by a nearby suitcase that seemed to be covered in the silver/white stuff. I somehow knew the disease was a machine (an artificial life form) and that it was based on silicon. Being awake I realize it must have been some kind of nanovirus. She got worse; se was in pain, while I trying to figure out how to something about it, as I made a note into a book filled with what where sever equations, I can’t say what they where (since I don’t remember) but as far as I can tell they where dealing with phenomena on the quantum scale (wtf Did that have something to do with the virus, was I trying to sabotage the it somehow?), as I put the book away I think I began checking her temperature, she bit my hand, she said it was because she needed to bite something because of the pain, I said it was an instinct planted to ensure the diseases spread.

I moved away, noticed I was bleeding just as my sister begun to slowly show signs of decompose into the goo I left the room locked the door. I tried to find my father to explain to him why it is unsafe to try to enter the room and why he should avoid infected people. I couldn’t find him, despite having seen him a few min ago, before entering the room, I looked outside it was desolate and abandoned. I found my mother in the apartment, she was unstable, she kept forgetting what I was telling her, and she didn’t listen to my instructions. At that point I began to assume we where all infected and would soon die and become unstable, not only that I also began to believed it was impossible to find a cure in the little time I or that humanity had left, not only was that most of the people in the city where either dead, dying or very dangerous, ore even two of those things at a time, something remarkable considering it was a normal town this morning.

I’m now assuming that whatever it was broke out just a few hours ago, I didn’t “know” this in the dream, I’m deducing it from the fact my baby sister was still in daycare. For some reason I thought it was possible babies and very small children might be immune to the stuff. I told my mother to start preparing stuff we might need for a treck somewhere safe, I got down to write up a few details about my sister, I knew I would be dead before long, but if could get her to a safe place and if some adult was immune to the sickness, my little sis would at least know something about herself. As I wrote down a few things, I seemed to know what I was writing (I’m not quite sure how this is possible, I distinctly remember hearing somewhere that you can’t read in dreams, this really freaked me out the first few seconds of when I was awake, I somehow didn’t feel like what I saw was just a dream), I currently remember explicitly writing her date of birth, or what in the dream world was the date of birth. Now as I walked down the stairs with my stuff I began to collapse, as I imagined a desolate daycare center with no sign of any potential surviving kids & babies, someone must have in their madness killed them off, or perhaps a few where still around, hidden. I think I died after that, can’t really tell if I did since I woke up at that poinz.

The first dream ended here, about 10 min later I feel asleep again.

Second dream, I’m kind of in a hurry and my memory is getting fainter so I’ll condense this one:

I was in a jungle, I wasn’t myself, first off I was bald, suspiciously similar in appearance to Jhon Locke and I seemed to be armed and was part of a group of five people who where trying to survive an outbreak of what I at that point knew to be the outbreak of the same stuff as in the previous dream. Tthe composition of the group kept changing during the latter period of the dream. This included the number of people in the group including their number, I remember the people seemed to be mostly male, whit the exception of one European and one Latin-American woman, while all the other guys (including a black dude) seemed to be Americans. We seemed to be gaining experience, and loosing supplies at a far faster rate than possible, referring to things as if they where routine by now, for this to be reasonable it would have had to be snapshots of several weeks of living in the area.

We started out hiding to avoid people noticing us and sharp shooting what seemed distinctly like east Asian looking civilians, the funny thing is not all of them seemed to be infected. The outbreak seems to have been very recent. I had no explanation of what I was doing there. It seemed to be a valley of some kind surrounded by high mountains, it seemed to have islands of development. A decidedly socialist style of architecture with apartment blocks and semi-modern concrete buildings, these islands of development (towns?) seemed to be surrounded by jungle. Well after some time of living off the land and scavenging in the occasional ghost town, it the lands became increasingly desolate. We at one point encountered a group of suriviors like ourselves, it was composed of mostly kids (7-12) with a few adults. Among them I saw my father, he was delusional. I realized as did the leader of the group of survivors that they where simply suffering from a slower progression of the disease (it took weeks, instead of the days it took most people in the warm climate, and hours in my previous dream), they would die, but much more slowly. It seemed the kids by nature had some partial immunity, but that it just wasn’t enough. We left the group knowing they had days to live.

My group seemed to be immune, but reluctant to expose itself to further infection (perhaps there where different strains of the stuff?, or perhaps fighting off each infection by some mechanism diminished your ability to keep fighting it? Could it be the nanovirus kept check of what your body did to kill it and learned to adapt).

Some other stuff happened I don’t quite remember.

We where in abandoned town at the edge of the valley. We heard the loudspeakers, it was in a East Asian language, it seemed to be wartime propaganda or announcements. The city still had some life, apparently some part of the valleys’ original government was still intact and bossing around the surviving citizens, which seemed to be very few indeed, and its hard to say to what extent they paid attention to the loudspeakers. Perhaps they where automated messages? Perhaps the top guys where hiding in a bunker of some kind? It would make sense since we heard combat going on, soliders suited in basic biohazard suits where attacking a heavily fortified American held position/fort with a high wall (it seemed to have been erected recently). I was shocked, there was still civilization, at the same time I realized this wasn’t an outbreak it was a deployment of a nanoweapon / bioweapon by the American military! They welcomed me and the only other survivor of the group to their safe position, they seemed to be dressed in semi-futuristic armor, perhaps doubling as a biohazard suit. The position was heavily armed ( (including anti-aircraft missiles). A few min after we stepped in the commander of the division gave an order over his computer. Massive scale bombing of the edges of the valley begun, with what seemed to be phyroclastic flows going down the mountains at the edges of the large valley. The effect was according to sensors insufficient, additional decontamination measures where ordered. The dream ended with several nuclear detonations that ravaged the valley.

I had a third dream, recollection of which is very faint. I was for some time the same guy in the second dream, part of the time I was me, with the eventual change of me being able to suddenly fly. It was a ghost town/warzone setting in what seemed to be somwhere in Europe. Also I rember an abandoned callendar having 2013 on it (which is again werid since I don't think you can read in dreams) I was trying to get enough supplies to survive, some kind of pseudocriminal organization was still around trying to fight off the crazed virus carriers.

That’s all I remember. Now I wonder what polytubbies make of my dreams?

This reminds me, if some kind of war/plague/end of the world thing happened. I would first log on poly to see how bad people here think it is.

Then as I wander the wasteland (if I survived) I would track down abandoned hospitals with working powergenerators, to use their computers to post on poly. Somehow I think despite the world having eneded I wouldn't be the only poster.

            I can image the threads:

Predictions of doom bother me less as I get older. Even Che's 2040 asteroid seems okay to me.

Hm? It was a dream, in any case if America uses a nano weapon, I'm sure they will annex you before they use it.

Yes, I realise it was a dream. I use "predictions" loosely.
