But decanting does not involve hoses iirc...

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

Decant specifically refers to wine (your example) Heraclitus.

Siphon works great if you are referring to gasoline and/or using a tube.
The purpose of 'decanting' is to get oxigen into the wine, to let the wine 'breath' before you drink it. Preferably a considerable time in advance before you start serving it.

So decanting is not so much getting the wine from one container into the other, but by doing so you mix the wine with air. In addition, decanting 'bottles' often are very broad at the base, thus the surface exposed to the air is very large.

You can still siphon wine as well, which you would do with a tube I suppose

I'd rather siphon the wine. Having had a mouthful of gasoline before makes this an easy statement.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Oh, I get it Ozzys mysterious sentence is an euphemism for you spelled so many things so horribly wrong that I don't have the heart to tell you, but still feel the need to point it out for others.

I've said before, Poly trumps google as the fountain of all knowledge.

Now since I am counting on using this principle again, can someone explain what the below phrase means?

                "Ah whoha DanSed me."
                I almost missed your DanS.

I spell the word s-y-p-h-o-n but Spell Check accepts either spelling.

Watch out or we'll think you meant something else, like when Bill Clinton says "harass" he actually thinks he's saying two words
