  • US agressor tried to kill....

....the Koran, US military sent him home and bought people a new Koran. I have to admit I can't decide whether to laugh about this or not.

An American sniper has been sent home from Iraq for using a copy of the Koran for target practice at a shooting range near Baghdad, the US military says.

The Muslim holy book was found riddled with bullet holes last week by Iraqi police, who also discovered offensive graffiti inside its cover.

A US military spokesman said the soldier had been removed from his unit, sent home, and would be disciplined.

He was unnamed, but was reportedly a staff sergeant in a sniper section.

US military spokesman Colonel Bill Buckner said the incident was "both serious and deeply troubling", but stressed it was an "isolated incident and a result of one soldier's actions".

The US army's commander in Baghdad, Major-General Jeffery Hammond, made a personal apology to local Sunni Arab leaders in Radwaniya, CNN reported.

On arrival, he was met by hundreds of protesting tribesmen.

"In the most humble manner, I look into your eyes today and I say, please forgive me and my soldiers," Gen Hammond said, according to CNN.

The military presented the elders with a new copy of the Koran.

An Iraqi community leader said Sunni Arab tribal units who fought alongside US forces had threatened to quit, but that the US apology had assuaged their anger.

"I was feeling bitterness, but as long as they apologised we are okay with them. Our anger has cooled," Saeed al-Zubaie told Reuters.

I believe you quoted what is apparent and even transparent

We as Americans will never "win" their hearts and minds, we are the decadent lifestyle of the Western World

While this may not be appropriate, it is certainly not any more offensive than what happens over their in other circumstances.

This is their holy book and should not have been desecrated so to speak, but they should focus on what has been going on around them.

They see this as wrong but the treatment in their society of females is a lot worse.

But it important to them, not so important to people outside the Islamic belief.

if it is so hard to bear, then maybe we should pack up and let them have it, "Holy and Protected" from desecration but the people will be under cruel intentions of those that would oppress them.

Oh and in the meantime, how about them boyz sending us some oil we are using picking up trash in the land of heinous acts, maybe lessen the impact of us "decadent westerners"

So frickin what, an isolated incident of indescretion, ok, address this with the individual in question, go through target identification and acquistion training and lets move onward.

Maybe some folks ought to be upset when someone burns and American Flag over their, dont hear much outcry when that happens do we?

            THOSE SNEAKY MARINES.........

            Look Closely.....

            Keep looking....................

            See it now?

            !

If a Muslim sees a naked woman --- they are supposed to kill themselves.

            Ya gotta love the Marines.

If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

Get over it, was a mistake and we will try to not let it happen again, but how about you folks get behind outting the terrorists and help out the bad guys, then we wont be over their fricking with yer Holy Book!

Oh please. If there were Iraqi police forces using the Bible for target practice, it'd be on all the news channels and people would be wondering why we are even trying to help them out!

This was an incredibly stupid thing to do and trying to deflect from that isn't going to work.

I agree, but what I am saying is it is not the worse thing that has happened over there.

Oh and as for your Iraqi Police Forces reference, havent there been issues about them being infoltrated by the oppressor forces, getting fellow Iraqi officers killed and yes it did hit the news and yes we have moved onward and yes it is a terrible thing, but again Imran, try to f-o-l-l-o-w that people whould address it and move onward...........

And? Stop deflecting from the issue. Its like people who, when you point out Bush's mistakes, immediately start harping on and on about Clinton, like that has anything to do with the original comments.

Yes, it was stupid (since we know what the reaction was gonna be). The reaction is still stupid too though.

Now that we have that childish outburst out of the way, and trolling you was not as fun as i had thought, more of a first ropund troll-out, we can move forward.

While it is wrong it shouldnt be the focus of the conflict.

Of course, it doesn take the focus off if in fact this war or conflict is moving toward a conclusion.

I say do the punishment whatever it may be and then move forward, if not, these smaller, while inappropriate unfortunate incidents, will detract from the bigger picture of

Ok, maybe I am wrong, maybe we should get a panel together, sequester a group of veterans and come out with any/a;; evidence of any such shortcomings, then we get past the infracton in question
