Almost none of the communists, socialists or liberals in the United States or France are authoritarians. Stalinism is professed by such a small minority to be almost indiscernible in the political landscape of those countries. The last left wing authoritarians of any prominence in western countries were groups like the Baader Meinhof gang or the Red Brigades. They are long since gone.

There are plenty of authoritarians in China, because the communist party is the established authority in that country. But they are right wing authoritarians: people who are submissive to the established authorities. If you are looking for left wing authoritarians, i.e. people who are submissive to specifically revolutionary authorities, you'll have a hard time finding them.

When you are talking about authoritarianism in the psychological sense, left wing and right wing don't quite mean the same thing as they do in the political sense. In fact, in Canada and the US, being politically right wing almost certainly makes you more authoritarian than being politically left wing.

Your futile objections to this have no weight. I have the 30 years worth of case studies that prove it in my possession.

Aside from DF's point, maybe "ideology" would have been a better word choice than "ideal." I agree nobody can deny that the "ideal" of a successfully accomplished post-socialist, stateless communist utopia surrounded by rainbows and lollipops would be just dandy, but I merely meant the system of ideas which have driven (and will drive) people to the sort of failed concrete implementations you refer to. Sorry for being unclear.

Obama, no education in real economics. He wants to double the capital gains tax. Not to fund some new program or cut the national debt. He wants to do it because he thinks anyone who gets capital gains can afford to give a big chunk of it up.
