Nobody said anything about the USSR or China; it's the ideal of Communism that has been and continues to feel threatening. There's no guarantee it won't see a resurgence in underdeveloped or even developed nations later in this century. One market crash and who knows what demagogues will come out on top.

I've thought the ideal of Communism was not hated, but it's the concrete implementations that were a threat to the US. The ideal of Communism is a threat to the American political and business elite, not to the country or the common folk that inhabits it.
