I've never begged for money but I have given alot to beggers. I wouldn't give in the US where there are jobs if someone wants to work but in the Philippines where if I don't give people go hungry then I give. There are no jobs for those people.

I have been in a situation where I had almost, but not quite enough, money for fare. (Usually something evenly expressed in coins, like a two-pound coin in the UK.)

In that situation I've asked passersby if they can give me a two-pound coin in exchange for the change I do have, which might be about GPB 1.75 or something.

I've gotten the money I needed on the few occasions I've had to do that. Sometimes they didn't even accept my lesser amount, just giving me the 2 GPB coin essentially for free.

Dunno if that counts. I'm offering something in return, even if it's clearly not worth as much as how much I need. Is that the same as begging for 0.25 GBP? Law school has not taught me the answer to that question.
