The point he wanted make sure is the tax is fair as it was the first and fore most point, anything afterwards was simply afterthought or lessor in importance.

If you're going to read some substantial point into the ordering of a sentence (or a paragraph), there's nothing I can say to convince you.

I agree. What struck me most was that up until this debate Obama was arguing for increasing CG on the basis of increased governmental revenue. Under questioning he changed his tune to imply his overreaching motive was taxation fairness rather than attempt to defend his earlier position that it would indeed increase revenues. No I read something into words that are actually present in a quote as opposed to attempting to edit them out to make a completely different point.

The way that I understand it he believe that increasing the capital gains tax will fund his tax cuts for the middle class.

He says, "I want to make sure A and B."

It is not disingenuous to point out that he did say, "I want to make sure [...] B."

Ummm you are definitely wrong. In that section he means that increases in capital gains tax will fund health care and other things.

History doesn't seem to back him up on that contention.

Ohh good lord. You truly are a piece of work

The intentional omission of A is clearly an poorly veiled attempt to make it look as if all that was ever wanted was B and not the reality of A! and B.

                  Give it up already.

I explicitly said that he wanted A (i.e. in the first sentence where he talks about the value of a progressive tax code). I did not attempt to ignore that. I omitted A in that sentence to point out that he said that he wanted B. You, as I said, are an idiot.

I don't really believe it either. In fact, I don't expect the budget to be balanced again in this or the next decade, but it's pretty obvious that that's what he meant.

I don't argue that. In fact I said he gives examples of why taxation is required. Nowhere does he talk in that section that such a policy increases those revenues in order to counter the historical facts Gibson provided earlier.

                            Did you read this far?

GIBSON: But history shows that when you drop the capital gains tax, the revenues go up.

OBAMA: Well, that might happen, or it might not. It depends on what's happening on Wall Street and how business is going.

I have read the entire debate several times over. The point being is that he argues that it is uncertain as to what may or may not happen with CG revenues as a function of taxation rate and economic activity. He still favors rate hikes.
