  • Microsoft Office induces seizures; or, how difficult is it to set default languages?

I set it to English (UK). It goes back to US. I set as default, I select all and set the language to UK, it doesn't matter and it drives me mad. Can anyone help please?

Could you remove US from the language list?

Maybe its set to "automatically detect the language" and for some reason reverts to US? Have you tried turning it off?

Does Windows still do that thing where you have to insert the disc if you want to change the system language?

And then, when you want to change the language, it used to give you the list of available languages in the currently selected system language. To give you an idea of how retarded that is, imagine trying to change a Japanese install of the OS to the English system language, when you know where the language preference pane is, but the list of languages are all in Japanese characters.

Is that why OS X is so bloated? It has every single language pack installed by default?

Yeah, MS have some problems with language support. Some years ago I had a NT server that provided services with monetary calc. Whenever it was booted it was very important to login at least one time - if not, it used american seperators(?) instead of danish (ex. 6 items a 30,00 dkr became 18000 instead of 180 )

Yep. I guess Agathon finds it beneficial to have Swaheli, Tagalog, Occitan, Oromoo, etc installed all the time. I'd prefer it install the language I choose at install time, then optionally download or install other languages from discs. Windows Update hosts language packs as well.

What are your system-level language settings?
