Here are some pictures from the link above. This is a seal from the La Jolla Tide Pool which shows signs of being attacked by a great white.

    Close up of same seal.

Here's a picture of a surfer at San Onfre (just north of where the Shark attack occurred). I bet that surfer just crapped his pants.

*Note to self, remove surfing from 'to do' list.

kkill all the seals. They freak me out when you're surfing and all of a sudden they pop their head out. Now I know there is a shark following them. Remove any found near Voltaire parking lot. Favorite surf spot.

(should not) "swim in or near areas frequented by sea lions, harbor seals, and elephant seals, near their rookeries, or near the mouths of rivers where the animals concentrate looking for fish. "

GREAT! Voltaire parking lot is next to a river/inlet.

I can't really see how the attack is just the fault of the seals though. The La Jolla Marine Park is a large underwater marine sanctuary created in the early 1970's where absolutely no fishing or collecting is allowed so as other areas of the coast have been over fished more and more predators congregate in or near the park. Both Great Whites and Leopard sharks (both known as "man eaters") are known to breed with in the park. Here's a video some divers took of small Leopard sharks getting ready to mate at La Jolla.

Notice how close to shore they get? You can see people are wading only waist deep. The Great Whites supposedly breed in the deeper canyon which is part of the park.

Some where there is video of harbor seals trying to escape great whites by jumping up on top of surf boards while the surfer is still on it. From a seal perspective I can see why it is better to risk getting close to a person then to get eaten by a shark but from a person's perspective if the sharks start associating surfers with seals then you're ****ed!

Those sharks do love harbor seals though. They're like bit sized snacks on the go.

About Voltaire parking lot... I once saw a massive grunion run at dog beach just north of Voltaire. I have to admit fried grunion is actually pretty good.

Grunion are a small fish about twice the size of a sardine which lays its eggs at the high water mark on sandy beaches. It's kind of weird to see millions of fish suddenly come ashore all at once. Just tons of them all rush the beach for miles and miles. They taste great though.

I don't go in the same water where there are seals.

Watch this video of a great white catching a seal. It seems like the great whites go deep and then suddenly rush up from the bottom at the seals.

That's a video of a small grunion run in La Jolla (the biggest ones occur in early summer) followed by a video about the shark attack.

Why? Do they try to mate with you?

When I read the title I was trying to figure out which song it was.

The closest I got was the Can-Can tune. (Orpheus in the Underworld.)
