What is your opinion on what should happen?
Don't sit and complain without at least offering an option. That's wimp, KH. You're not a wimp.

Personally, I would have settled for throwing fare-dodgers off the train.

If you were innocent, why would you run from an officer of the law?

Running from a cop is about as stupid as it gets.

They are traffic cops. They aren't going after rapists and car jackers.

Rapists and car jackers might get shot. Or you one of those that offer no alternative, too? Or is your recommendation to blow it off? If you start blowing it off, where's the line? Offer something.

I offer that much like subway systems, train systems demand that you show your pass at an entrance of some kind. That way, nobody without a pass sneaks on, and nobody gets hurt

Why do people need to get shocked silly? They're *******s, but they aren't doing anything deserving of getting hurt.

In 2007, "subject was checked on SkyTrain and had no valid fare receipt." Taser was deployed after subject attempted to flee when officer discovered an outstanding warrant for arrest.
                    No problem with this one.

The other three sound a tad extreme.

Agree with Arrian, but maybe that last one
                      • In 2008, subject would not identify himself while being checked for fare on SkyTrain. During arrest subject "became unco-operative and grabbed onto the platform railing and refused to let go." Taser was deployed "after several warnings."

After several warnings what are you going to do.

Of course being from Chicago I guess the being tazered is probably better that having a night stick used on you.
That's the norm here. Or they just knock you down and kick the crap out of you.

But yes the first couple were kind of weak.

Tasering for not paying a train fare does seem odd, but we are talking about Canada here.

                          Two things:

                          1) None of the incidents had a situation where the suspect was tasered for simply not paying a train fare as the title of the article implies. Not paying the fare is what appearently brought them to the attention of the officers, not what they were tasered for (this is why I so dispise sensationalist media).

                          2) A one line blurb is not enough information to determine the justification (either for or against) of the level of use of force. More information is needed in every case.

Yeah, good job. That's one line.

I'd like more info before I say one way or the other that there was justification.

Yes, it's one line. And given what's NOT there, it's enough to judge.

The fakecop got pissed that some dude was running away, so he tased him. It's not appropriate.
