At the center of a black hole is it the same time as the moment of its formation?

  • Got another question. The Earth is spinning, the solar system is spinning, the galaxy is spinning, is the universe spinning as well as expanding or just expanding?

    • apologies for bringing up the topic of religion in a thread that was about physics

if you don't mind me exaplaining, one reason why i did is because i believe that i am in a way a post-modernist, i can agree with both pre-modern forms of belief (religion, spirituality) and modern forms of belief (science, logic), i am also attempting to write a novel which contains both a pre-modern, modern and post-modern view to the history of the universe, focusing however more on the history of mankind, both past present and future

pardon if i'm blabbing, i don't mean to be an annoying noob in my first few posts, i merely bring up religion/spirituality for reasons of curiousity and for finding out more about fellow posters here in these forums

      peace

It's my thread and imo threadjacking can be very good.

Cranks with physics PhDs are generally more of the "fanatic" variety (can't change their mind and won't change the subject) while cranks without don't even make any logical sense.

            • thanks lancer,

could it be the spinning and expansion could be happening at the same time, during the big bang scientists say that space and time uncurled, perhaps space-time could be uncurling in a spinning or rotating form, like the effect of something being flung off a spinning body due to the Coriolas Effect, or something along those lines

padon if my physics is lax, i don't study it, i just like learning bits from the net and science documentaries

Are you asking if the Universe as a whole has some overall angular momentum?

                a) The Universe is infinite. The only meaningful question is whether the visible Universe has some angular momentum. There is no reason I can see that it wouldn't, but as far as I can see it would be fairly small. Mass concentrations like planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies etc. "spin" because they have collapsed, and by conservation of angular momentum they have to move more quickly. The same is not true of the visible Universe.

                b) It is extremely difficult to measure lateral velocities relative to us. AFAIK there is no reliable way to measure the angular momentum of the visible Universe.

This doesn't make very much sense.

                    • The universe is spinning around me right now. (But not for very long...)

Um, are you claiming that it can't possibly have finite volume?

Ooo. But what if it does? What does that mean?

You omitted his crucial distinction between "the" Universe and the "visible" or "observable" Universe. One is infinite, while the other is not.
                            Unbelievable!

                            • No, I didn't. I expressed surprise at the idea that the entire universe could not possibly be finite.

No wonder I'm so dizzy all the time. Well, it's either that or the drink.
