How is it Wal-Mart's fault if someone can not compete in the marketplace? Is it not the choice of consumer who they support with their monies?

WalMart is pretty much the only store in my area that's open 24 hours. Since I work second shift, that's important to me.

snoopy: the person who holds the camera holds the copyright, unless that right is signed away somewhere. I remember that from my time working at a camera shop.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Stupid on the part of Walmart not to have a contract that specifies that they own the material. Double stupid for not paying Flagler off. Flagler sounds like a douche.

        Oh, and @ Hillary.

There are people who believe that small local businesses are better for society than large multinationals. I don't suggest that this is true in my opinion, or in yours, but it is a rational belief given that presumption (which does have a logical foundation).

It's also rational to worry about any one company wielding too much power/influence.

I'm not sold on Walmart hate, mind you. For one thing, I'm pretty sure that Target or some other competitor would LOVE to be Walmart. Like in the South Park episode... Walmart is dead, long live Walmart.

              This is freaking awesome!

I suppose, with enough money, lawyers and time, Wal-Mart could sue for possession. But they've also been given the opportunity to buy it back and declined (stunningly stupid!). What I find absolutely amazing is that "inside" corporate workings were recorded routinely, with no confidentiality agreement in place.

In terms of intellectual property, with no "work for hire" contract in place and no record of ownership/possession of the produced materials, Flagler is on pretty solid ground.

I'm also thinking that some group or organization will represent Flager for free if Walmart decides to sue .

Is that not enough? Although as was pointed out, it's the consumer making the choice. I'd rather buy 1 good product than 10 that have to keep being replaced.

I absolutely love Walmart, though it is rare to not see a couple SCREWING in the mattress and/or jewelry department, there is something so convenient about everyday low prices that I cannot put my finger on, perhaps it is because it saves me a lot of money? Also, it is great that the supercenters employ many many more people than the 'mom and pop' shops that are usually either fronts for the mafia, or the unprofitable family business that little Timmy takes over after failing out of Wharton. Let's put things into perspective: what other company hires so many old people and pays them actual money to sit there and say "Hello, welcome to the store" and gives them insurance and only kicks them out when they start farting too much? Only Wal Mart has this kind of respect and for god's sake get over yourselves

Also according to the bottom of walmart.com, Walmart has saved American families over 78 billion dollars and the number continually rises like the Gmail storage counter check it out

It is pretty funny... they first make the mistake of allowing this for YEARS with only a hand shake agreement. And then when offered the chance to correct that mistake by being offered the opportunity to actually buy the footage, they get cheap and decline...
What's even funnier is that they thought at the time that it had very little value...

They have used their clout in the marketplace to brow beat suppliers.
For example, the put Rubber Maid out of business when it balked at sending its jobs to China.

They've closed down stores whose employees had the nerve to unionize.

In order to open up a new store, Wal-Mart demands local governments waive property taxes, turn sales taxes over to Wal-Mart, build roads and other infrastructure to support the store, and sometimes even GIVE Wal-Mart the land to build the store on and pay for training Wal-Mart employees.

It gives lessons to its employees on how to apply for food stamps and government-supplied health care.

Waiving taxes and such is common for large stores and other things that will bring in significant jobs/expansion to the economy (sometimes warranted, sometimes not). It's certainly not unique to Wal-Mart, though.

How is it bad for Wal-Mart to give its employees lessons on applying for government programs that they qualify for? I think that's a great idea.
