  • Tricks to play on your supervisor

What fun things have you done to your supervisors at work? Post them here!

I'll start. This is from my brother, Torilus, late last year. I guess it must have been around Christmas, but he didn't get round to sending me the pics until recently.

My supervisors at work held a pot luck, and they told us all to bring something fun. They even said they'd be sure to try everything. This was unwise of them.

I went home and I found this recipe online: http://www.blackwidowbakery.com/

[My wife] thought it was disgusting, but I got all the ingredients and finally got a meat cake together. The inside was three layers of ground beef baked into a sort of meatloaf consistency. Then for the icing I used mashed potato. At the end it did look like a normal cake, even if it was a little amateurish. Like the sort of thing a newbie cook might make trying to impress his boss.

I took it to the pot luck and the bosses didn't suspect anything until one of them started to cut the cake. The meatloaf was really dense and they suspected it wasn't normal chocolate sponge in there. When they lifted out a wedge they guessed what it was. True to their word, they still each had a piece and described it as an experience they only wanted to enjoy once in their lifetime.
He sent this picture, which I've attached.

Post any tricks you've played on your supervisors at work!

I tricked my supervisor into thinking I'm a good employee. Oh the laughs we'll have when he sees my project.

Nothing real interesting, but the other day during a smoke break my supervisor left his computer unlocked (a huge no-no in banks) so a coworker used it to send an email to the group authorizing a half-day, and then she replied with her thanks. Somehow she didn't get in any trouble.
                Unbelievable!

My supervisor at the newspaper had a strange sense of humor. He's a quiet bearded short guy in his late 50s or early 60s, but he was a huge South Park fan and every so often would talk to us in an Eric Cartman voice. He also liked Monty Python's absurdist humor, and was very open to new stuff.

I brought a copy of the "Real Ultimate Power" book (about ninja vs. pirates, among other things) and he loved it. For a while afterwards whenever my reporting took me to places where I could buy cheap knives or ninja swords, I would get some for him and sneak into his office and tie it to the pipes above his desk so he would walk in to a hanging sword.

Him and the assistant editor (a guy in his late 30s, early 40s) used to trade Strong Bad jokes every so often, especially stuff regarding Trogdor the Burninator.

His wife kept a bunny and blogged for it, and every so often he'd show us the webpage where the bunny vents its anger on the stupid humans around it and would kill them all if only it had the power to do so.

I ended up buying him a Monty Python Holy Grail Death Bunny for his birthday once and he put it over his door next to photos of his own bunny.

There was one time I covered a men's clinic that opened and gave free prostate exams. I had a lot of fun with that story. The editor had to reject no fewer than six lede paragraphs. Most went along the lines of "A prostate exam may sound like a pain in the ass, but it just might save your life."

Actually shepards pie (grew up eating this a lot!) is hamburger (ground up), along with mashed potatoes, corn and perhaps a vegetable.

In my sweethearts meatlof she used Hamburger, finely crushed saltine crackers, mushrooms, worchestershire sauce, 2 eggs fresh out of shell, salt and pepper!!

Technically real shepherd's pie is made with lamb shanks (hence the shepherd).

But my point is that there's nothing wrong with mixing potatoes and meat loaf. Sounds like dinner to me.

Many moons ago I had a supervisor that had a pole stuck up his ***. I'd wait for him to leave his office and run in and twist the ceiling light over his desk so it would flicker. He'd come back to his desk and call building services. Between the time he called and they'd show up, I'd sneak in and fix it. The guy would show up, declare there wasn't a problem and leave. I'd go back in and twist it again. After a few times, my frustrated supervisor started making comments about the skill of our building service people which made him even more unpopular with them. After about 10 times they started ignoring his phone calls. He had that flickering light for over a year. We tweaked a few other things in his office and no one ever came to fix them.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
