  • Video games research project

My name is Dr Guy Porter, a clinical researcher based in Sydney, Australia. I am part of a team of researchers headed by Dr Vladan Starcevic, Associate Professor at the Discipline of Psychological Medicine, University of Sydney.

We are investigating patterns of video game use, both online and offline. Specifically, our project aims to determine the characteristics and impact of excessive video game use.

We are looking for video game users from all backgrounds and who play all types of video games to take part in an anonymous online survey.

This project is not for profit and has received ethics committee approval by The University of Sydney.

If you’d like to take part, please follow the link below to our website:

(The survey can be found at the top right corner)

In case anyone is wondering (and before someone starts mercilessly spamming this thread) there IS a Dr. Guy Porter, he IS researching video games and behaviour and, in more professionally-chosen words, thinks Jack Thompson is a douchebag.

Take some time out from reading about US politics/Iraq and help this guy out.
Here is an interesting scenario to check out. The Vietnam war is cool.

Well he certainly came to the right place. Civilization must be one of - if not THE - most addictive game on the planet.

I know some old guys who literally write down each and every movement they make (e.g. Unit 52, moved from tile 53x32 to tile 53x53)...

          and that was on Civ1

Just took the survey. Yep, it appears legit. Anonymous, some questions about video gaming, lots of questions about feelings and emotions, questions about habits and behaviours.

Hi again and thanks for taking part in the survey!

Yes this is a legitimate research project with ethics committee approval. It is anonymous, not for profit, and entirely voluntary.

If you have any questions you can chat to me here or you can email A/Prof.Starcevic (senior researcher) if you have serious concerns about the survey.

I'm glad you found that interview DRoseDARs - I often link that when I start getting flamed!

              cheers,
              -Guy

Well, there, I threw the wrench into the thing.

Of course I think about death and dying all the time, I'm building a corpse in my garage. And yes, it's rather disturbing. Which is the whole point.

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Not sure if my answers will be helpful, since I rarely play games anymore.
