  • Oi, Provost. I did the research I promised, and as I said at the time

Ludgate, Newgate, Aldersgate, Cripplegate, Moorgate, Bishopsgate, and Aldgate were all actual gates in yer acksherall city wall.

    FACT

I have in front of me several maps from the 17th century to prove it. With pictures of gates in the city wall for every one.

What funny spellings you use for 'road' or 'street' (gater or whatever) in the Norwegian colony of Yorkshire is your business. Dahn 'ere a gate is a gate, mister.

Lol was he claiming that place names with "gate" in them must be of somewhat norse origin in the SOUTH of England? That's why scientists need historians

To his excuse: wiki says it's from Old English not directly from Danish, as I previously thought.

Oh. For a moment there, I thought we had another string of Washington scandals.

Uninterestingly, the Norse-ish word 'Hause' persists in the fells (Norse word again) of Cumbria as a pass or 'gateway' through the hills.
