  • The World's Top 50 Mysterious Places

Thought I'd share a link to a long feature describing many interesting and often ancient sites from all over the world. This has been partially inspired by the Civilization series.

Feature from BEYOND magazine, February 2008. Text and several images by Jerry Glover.

Click on the images to make larger then use ALL SIZES to make big enough to read. There's a lot of good places in this, some familar, many not.

stonehedge is the funniest ancient ruin of them all. Some pile of badly formed rocks thrown one on top of the other and they unwaveringly call it an "important archeological site". Not to mention that it will probably come down to the head of some unfortunate mezmerised admirer passing underneath "holly peasant ground".
I think in reality it must have been a place to solidly tie up their donkeys.

Probably the same way the Egyptians built their pillar halls. It ain't rocket science...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
          Once again...

That's why the rocks came from hundreds of miles away.

Those unfortunate people carried those ugly rocks from hundrends of miles away to build that?! I didn't know it could get more silly but it just did!

And the rocks had to come from far away. That's were the closest quarries mining these types rocks were. Also, there has been a rebuilding of Stonehenge (although, made of foam) that shows it clearly marks certain days of the year.

I still think it was about their donkies.
Doesn't aspire to much else really.

So the sun just happened to shine straight through the center of Stonehenge on the Summer Solstice and the moon just happened to shine straight through it on the Fall Equinox?

Oh yeah. You can rationalize anything.

                          Donkies.

Both of those are proven facts.

Eddie Izzard does a great bit on the poor fellows who were conned into moving the stones just a little ways down the road.
