I'm not justifying any of these things, but Spitzer's offense is clearly worse in my mind. It's also more relevant to the business of politics; I don't give two ****s if a politician sleeps around, but professional hypocrisy and illegal activities are very germane to the suitability of a public official.
    Well I sure care if a politician betrays his wife or friend. That says a lot about a person. It means they can't be trusted.

    Also, a lot of people don't sleep with their friends wives, or cheat.

      Uh, we are talking about politics, right? About politicians? Did you think they could be trusted so long as there's no obvious affair or malfeasance? I know it's trite to say "politicians in general can't be trusted," but there's a good amount of truth in it, and it seems naive to base your character judgments on something like this, especially when it doesn't even involve the man's job or public affairs.

      Many people don't, but many people do. The statistics on this vary widely but I haven't seen many studies that placed the general rate of infidelity in the US below around 16-18%. In some studies it's much, much higher, to the tune of 30% or more; it's partially dependent on how people define cheating.
