    So I know a guy charged with child solicitation!

    Yuck!

    A guy I used to work with, a defense attorney (yes, you read that correctly), was picked up at a gas station where he was going to meet a 15 yr old girl. Of course the girl was actually a cop. Typical Chris Hansonish scenario-online chat, emailing of **** photos to the "girl". agreement to meet. "Are U a cop" "no ru?" typical bull****.

    Charged with attempted sexual misconduct with minor-B felony (6-20yrs)
    2 C felonies of solicitation (2-8)
    1 D felony (penis email) (.5-3)
    2 A misdemeanors-found weed and a pipe in the home when recovering his pc (no child porn recovered yet, but its probably inevitable)

    He worked where I did for about a year before I left a few months ago, and I only ever recall saying a few things to him, (ie-not someone I think I've had beers or lunch with), but damn. Its just so surreal to see the mugshot of someone you know charged with something like that. DUIs, whatever. Weed, whatever. But Child solicitation! Damn. Just bizarre to throw your life away like that. Get up on a sunday, hey, president's day 3 day weekend. Light up a joint, cyber with an underage girl, agree to meet. WTF. Suspended from work without pay. Probable jail. Definite convicted felon and disbarrment.

    I'm glad he didn't actually molest anyone, then it obviously wouldn't be funny at all.


    Do you know anyone ever charged with something like this? Its really one thing to watch the predator show on tv, quite another to know someone caught up in a similar sting. very very surreal.

      Alas, but as much as I would like to see pics of my colleagues genitalia, I am no longer in the area.

      Nor could he afford me. I know what his income is, and I would probably charge him a good 30% of his yearly income to go to trial.

          If I were him, I would sell everything to hire the best atty. Which is not me of course, I'm still under 30 and way too green, and I've never tried a solicitation case, not that it would be that different than any other cop setup case (like drug deals). Personally, I'd rather face massive jail time than be disbarred and be a fry cook forever, and be on the sex offender registry.

          Oh, I should add that this guy is 29, so he has a lot of life left to him. not an old perv.

          As far as my record goes, well, I've won more than I've lost (which is saying something as a defense attorney, especially with what I had to work with), both juries and bench trials, but still have a ways to go in my career.

              I know a guy (I was a teen/preteen, he was a teenager still, I think, but more like 19) who volunteered at a school for the blind. Turns out he was sodomizing the children...

              I don't think anyone at church ever mentioned him again. I am not sure if that is the wose example I know. People raping children is all to common, I know a fair number of people who are victims of this(including 14 yearold prostitutes/etc).

                  I don't undertand these people though. Didn't those Chris Hanson stings get enough publicity? Why do teh pervs still use it as a source?

                              As an old public defender, I'm sure you've dealt with many types of coarse individuals and behavior.
