Calling New Zealand

My evil-bestfriend-who's-ruining-my-life is studying abroad in New Zealand this semester, making communication with her slightly more tricky.

Sprint will charge me $2.29/minute to call her or, if I get their International plan, $4/month + $.08/minute + $.26/minute for a mobile termination fee. Both options seem ridiculously expensive to me.

What other options do I have? I know there are international calling cards, but google gives me too many choices and I don't know if I should trust websites that advertise LOW RATES TO AFRICA AND EVERYWHERE.

Skype is definitely the best option... free if you both have PCs and relatively cheaper per-minute even if you have to call her actual telephone.
