I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

China has largely adopted market principles, however. Cuba is far from that -- indeed, even far from a beginning.

Why is it incumbent upon us to support Cuba's system with our hard-won commerce?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. You will have to bring up your problems with the US constitution-writers. Sadly, they're all dead.

"The Congress shall have power . . . To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes..."

Well he had to, didn't he? There wasn't a tailor on the island who could fit a diaper into those military fatigues.

Maybe Cuba can apply for Kosovo's old job.

So we should broadly deviate from free market principles in our trade with Cuba because they internally deviate from free market principles. That makes perfect sense.

100,000 Cuban refugees in Florida all hate him.

And these 100,000 Cuban refugees not only can vote in the U.S., but they're the swing vote in Florida, which is a swing State.

Only in a manner that has nothing to do with conquering. Sure.

If you were on the receiving end of their bullets and bombs, you might not take that view, DanS. The gusanos just attacked a journalist a weak ago for talking to anti-Posada demonstrators (Luis Posada being a convicted terrorist who is wanted in connection with this hemisphere's worst airline bombing).
