  • Fidelity vs. Chuck

vs. Vanguard vs. Ameritrade vs. E-Trade vs. ...

Which one to choose? I'd use it primarily for mutual funds and govt. bonds (I've got Zecco and Sharebuilder for stocks), in a non-pre-tax retirement account (already have a 401k), a general investment account, and maybe a 529.

Fidelity and Chuck have fee-free ATM access, which is a minor, but nice, perk, and seem to be rated higher for service. Fidelity also seems to have the largest no-fee fund selection, so I'm leaning in that direction.

    Thoughts? Your experiences?

Fee free atm access is nice Fidelity would be where i'd go when I get to the point I need one, probably, but I'm not by any means an expert.

Or I might go with AG Edwards, since their office is downstairs... they're affiliated with one of the major groups, I forget which.

Can't you do most of that through Sharebuilder?

Personally, I have two BuyandHold accounts (one taxable and one Roth IRA) and a separate Ameritrade account for when I want to buy options, sell stocks short, etc.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. I kinda want to get away from ShareBuilder. It's fund selection isn't that good, and I'm moving over to Zecco for stocks anyway (free trades ).

I do have an ING account, though, so if they integrate Sharebuilder with ING Direct and add some of teh Fidelity-like perks that would be ideal

                  Probably Fidelity

Although Etrade also has fee free ATMs and they have banking connected to the stock account. Thus, you can have savings, checking, CDs and shift money between that and stocks and bonds very easily. Currently, Etrade has one of the highest savings account interest rates around (though thanks to the Fed, they all suck now).

The problem with Etrade is that you do have to pay fees to buy mutual funds. If that is your main thing, then Fidelity is better.

Pretty poorly. Their money market funds pay squat.

Vanguard has the lowest management fees by far, don't they? They certainly used to. Their fees for index funds were especially low.

I'm looking at Etrade and it's giving a 3.01% for money market savings and 3.25% for checking ($5K+). Is that right?

Much lower APY rates. What else do it have?
