This article makes no sense. The first half claims that the kids are being forced to learn Spanish and the Hispanic kids aren't learning English. No proof or further explanation is given.

The second half of the article is basically a bunch of whining about having to take a foreign language - nothing to do with the original premise. What is so terrible about learning a foreign language? Spanish seems an especially useful one with >50% of the school being Hispanic.

No, dumbass. Can you read English? I said, make it mandatory to learn a 2nd language. Not mandate that it be Spanish. You have no frame of reference. Believe me, it's crap.

          WTF was that then ?

I'm against forcing it until maybe jr. high/middle school.

And then you implied that we learn English early because :

And I hate to tell you, buckwheat, but English is the language of the world. Not Spanish, Cantonese, French or Gaelic.

So, basically, you're suggesting that -- in a state that's in the bottom quarter of the nation in per-pupil school funding -- an elementary school hire four foreign language teachers? Or maybe find a way to get someone who speaks four foreign languages to work for Texas elementary school teacher wages?

            Sure. No problems there.

Teaching spanish in school is not intended to "make accommodation for the Mexicans", it's intended to "make our students not **** idiots who can't speak two languages while Europeans and Asians speak 3 and 4". Spanish is the most logical, because it's the most useful in the US and near the US; thus schools that only offer one, offer Spanish.

Foreign Language should be a requirement in school at every level. Absolutely. We are not the only country in the world, and being able to speak other languages not only teaches our students how to interact with others in other countries, but it teaches you a lot about our language also (As you learn things from the ground up, which often teaches things you take for granted in English).

Heck, if half the school is hispanic (and a decent number of native spanish speakers), sounds like Spanish is a very good idea. You learn a language best by using it with native speakers, and while a high schooler might be able to head over to France or at least Quebec, in the elementary school your best bet is to have spanish speakers around to practice with.

It is. However, I would like to have some confirmation about if they are making English mandatory as well as it serves to not ghettoize the population and allow them to be upwardly mobile.

Agreed. It's a crappily writen article; it provides objective info on the school's Spanish program, but the only info it provides on whether or not English is being taught comes from the mouths of whining parents. Not exactly journalism at its finest.

You know what? No. back in the VP thread, you challenged me to back up what i was saying about McCain with links; I did so, immediately, and I notice you haven't had another word to say.

Now you're claiming that the school definitely doesn't teach English, and that "Mexicans" are behind the curriculum. Your rules, boy-o: back it up.

                                Give you a reference.
We searched high and low but couldn’t find what you’re looking for.

Texas had the next highest number of illegal aliens, 18 percent; together these two states accounted for about half of the illegal aliens sentenced. ...
                                So kiss my ass.
