Denmark is now the European Champion, team handball, having defeated Croatia 24-20 in the final earlier today.

First time ever, and first time in 40 years we were even in a final.

Now we just wish someone would notice..

(For those not immediately in the know, team handball is by far the biggest spectator sport here, and this win is hugely important to most people round these parts.)

How I wish we had a team handball sub-forum or something. Anything.

Well, we took them out 30-20 in the group stage. There must be some comfort in knowing they're starting to catch up a bit.

And Croatia will be hosting the World Championships next year, so we'll meet again.

Also, part of the reason this is so big is that we've been awfully close a number of times recently, only to see it all fall apart in the final stages. Bronze at the 2002, -04 and -06 Euros and last year's Worlds, so this is a long-awaited release for the team and fans.

I'm not devastated. We still kick ass at handball, but our players weren't in top form. I'm not much into excuses anyway, so just congrats from me. Expect some whining from the Croatian media though, about the judges.
